The Role of Black Elk in the Lakota Comedy

When Black Elk was a young man, he also became what was known as a Heyoka. The term Heyoka is often translated clown and it did involve humor. This actually may have gotten Black Elk into trouble at one point. People really did used to clown around with gunpowder in the old days - which is terrible firearm safety.
