The Effects of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib on the American Cause in Iraq
Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib were crucial to the way the Iraq war has become incredibly unpopular. The other thing I would say is that the US engaged in a mass campaign of assassination by drone of suspected Islamic terrorists, including Western citizens. This also was something of a scandal, but it didn't quite have the same psychological effect as Guantanamo and AbuGhraib.
