The group's arabic name officially meant the group of the people of sunna, for preaching in jehad. So, likels gave them the nickname boko haram, meaning, western is forbidden. Over the years, their following grew from hundreds to thousands as mohammed jus's preachings were recorded on tapes and sidees were sold across nigeria and over its border too. The group have their own settlement surrounding the religious complex established by him to mohammed yusup which includes islamic schools and mas attached to his house. They don't associate themselves with the rest of the community because of their adeologies and the way they view society.
