The Early Warning Signs of Dissatisfaction Over Free Trade

In the UK and Europe, we started to see very early indications of a dissatisfaction over the whole philosophy of free trade. And that was really accelerated by COVID when this idea of strategic autonomy has taken root. When people realized that we had a huge dependency on China for not just protective personal equipment or pharmaceuticals. We are very, very dependent now on a country which is obviously, in many people see as hostile to the West, particularly to the USA.
