In Mark, Jesus is trying to keep his who he is a secret the whole time. He doesn't want anybody to know who he is. It seems kind of strange, but it's clearly there,. The expectation really started taking off in the 19th century and then just blossomed in the 20th century until it's the kind of view that people today say, well, of course, that's what the Bible says.
