CHAPTER

The Origins of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis apparently has different strains, right? And some of them are ancestral and some of them were more modern. They've actually found an important gene, but how they got to it was kind of neat. So there is a gene in ancient tuberculosis still running around that causes the hijacks or macrophages and causes them to behave funny. It's affecting the macrophages in this way to cause dissemination of macrophages across the midline causing all types of extra long disease. Staying in the lungs means you're going to spew more out, which isn't beneficial for the bacteria.
