The History of the Akron Aircraft

The Akron airship was built to be an aircraft carrier. The first time that function was tested in 1932, pilots used a trapeze-style system for docking the dirigible with other planes on board. A spy basket hung from the bottom of the airship and allowed people to observe the ground below. This test did not go well; it swung back and forth really wildly. No additional work was done to try to make it viable either.
