How Does Hype Affect Progress in Science Experiments?
A lot of science experiment categories are blooming simultaneously, often in concert with each other. The Y-axis on the Gartner hype cycle is visibility, not progress; since social experiments products need users for them to have any actual value, there's a direct correlation between the two. Hype and visibility attract more people and resources, which speeds up the pace of progress and often brings down costs in a virtuous cycle. In addition to AI, tech bio, robotics, renewable energy all seem to be jumping out of the lab and into the real world.
