The village and plantations set aroundMount Pele began to suffer from pests such as snakes, mice, and rats. On April 23, 1902, Mount Pele ejected further ash clouds on the people around the volcano. Men had to climb up onto their roofs to sweep it off as the weight of the ash threatened to buckle homes.
