I think that there is this notion in, at least from what I've experienced in the academic world and honestly in blogging and writing in general, that ideas are only worth something if they are fully fleshed out and published. The fact is much more of the time you will be spending fleshing out and researching ideas than actually putting it into a completely fleshed-out, fully ready to read format. In the knowledge management community, there's these things called evergreen notes, whatever green notes are, which means they have survived for a long time in your system. They're probably gone through more revision by you. And that means they're probably a little bit more fles

We talked about my dad's experience researching for his thesis and books as an undergraduate without modern-day notetaking tools, what makes researchers interested in their research, the conflict with freer form notetaking and publishing, and how to make your notes accessible to the general public as an academic.
