The Importance of Liberal Education in Higher Education

Some universities like Columbia in its core curriculum and a number of others that take this other aspect of education seriously. That kind of education, liberal education, which as I said is somewhat rare in higher education, is the most transformative kind of education. What drives the activity of the university in most places is no longer the cultivation of young people into full human beings but rather the shaping of youngpeople into specialists of one kind of another including academia.
