The Transnational Battle of the Spanish Civil War
Children of parents who have been imprisoned, so particularly left-wing parents, didn't want to send them back to uncertainty. Many parents had become refugees themselves during the ongoing fighting in the Basque country and had gone to France or elsewhere. So it becomes quite tricky for the Basque Children's Committee to fill its duty of care to these children and their parents' wishes. By July 1938, around 2000 of the children are still in Britain.
