The Fourteenth Amendment and the Right to Medical Care
The fourteenth amendment was one of three amendments ratified after the civil war to right the wrongs of slavery. It's unclear whether blackman was thinking about this quite so pansively. He did write himself a note saying that a fundamental personal liberty is involved here. But he also described that freedom in more mundane terms, calling it the right to receive medical care.
