How Well Can We Detect Pathology in Vivo in Patients With Parkinson's Disease?
We have to lose 50% of dopamine-secreting neurons in this prescription nigra before we get the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Skin biopsies is a really exciting thing because that's not uninvasive but it's certainly less invasive than a brain biopsy or even potentially a lumbar puncture for patients. And you can see alpha-synuclein depositions on skin biopsies and I've even seen that there is some data that you can even differentiate between Parkinson's and multiple systems atrophy based on the pattern of where the alpha- synuclein is in the skin biopsy specimen. So using these other methods to try to identify patients earlier in the disease
