The Narrator of Deuteronomy

In Numbers, God is upset with Moses for striking a rock. His punishment is that he will not cross the Jordan into the promised land of Canaan. And sure enough, at the end of Deuteronomy, Moses dies on the other side. Even though Deuteronomy records the words of Moses, it's clearly not written by Moses but by somewhat at a much later time.
