Introduction
Joseph Sassoon is a professor of history and political economy at the Center for Contemporary African Studies. His recent book, The Sassoon's The Great Global Merchants and the Making of an Empire, is a really fascinating look at the Sassoon family. This was an originally an Iraqi Jewish family that became a global merchant company. They started and ran a global merchant business that existed and flourished all over the eastern hemisphere.
