The Rise of the iTunes Music Store

Apple launched the iTunes online music store in 2003. It allowed buyers to freely browse 200,000 songs and download an individual song for 99 cents. Sound quality is the highest because iTunes encodes songs in a format called AAC. Under iTunes they receive 65% of the purchase price of digitally downloaded songs.
