The Importance of Minimising Prediction Error
Some people like to articulate surprise in terms of a prediction error. What I predicted was going to happen is nothing like what I actually sensed the data I got. So this falls out of the free energy principle because if it's the case that the autonomous paths, the dynamics that we constitute our active engagement with the world, are trying to minimise free energy. And one way of understanding that is that basically your models of how you're going to move are realised by creating data that is consistent with your predictions.
