The Second Foundation of Mindfulness

The second foundation, which is really an important part of the whole teaching in understanding how it leads to liberation, how it lead to freedom, is mindfulness of feelings. In English, we use the word feeling to mean a lot of different things. Feelings can be emotions. It can be just, you know, I feel hot, I feel cold. The polyword that's used for this very specific kind of feeling is vedana. So, feeling tone or vedana refers to the quality in each moment's experience of it being either pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral.
