The American Car Industry Is a Wasteland, Right?
The U.S. opened up its economy to Japanese cars in the 1970s and 80s, but they destroyed the American car industry because they were better. The problem is that when you migrate from a manufacturing job to a service job, what you get is your wages drop. These are the people who we hear about in the swing states in the United States who have been badly affected by globalization. Trump knows it's going to go down well with his punters even though there's a big argument that says he won't benefit at all.
