The Disillusionment of Hamlet
Shakespeare describes Hamlet as an idealist before Claudius' and his mother's transgressions. He realizes that the natural order of good is just an appearance, masking a deeper underlying evil and rot. This massively disillusions him and creates in him a kind of nihilistic immobility. In this way, he's not so far from someone like Sid Harta, who for a brief time just couldn't come to grips with the harsh reality of the world.
