The Elasticity of Religious Practices
For some it has changed in terms of strengthening any kind of commitment to these kinds of practices. And I would suspect that for others, it has really eviscerated any sense of any kind of higher power that is at all benevolent. So we might very well be witnessing a sea change of sorts on the institutional front in Ukraine once again. They continue unabated because they really don't need clergy. They don't need an iconastas. It's that kind of integration, those everyday practices that begin to explain how and why that's possible. For somebody like Vladimir Putin it's precisely that kind of resolve and resilience he massively underestimated.
