The Pros and Cons of ESG Initiatives

Some proponents of ESG are pushing for government mandates, various mandated disclosures. A Congressional Review Act initiative was just passed by Congress related to the ability of financial companies to pursue goals other than profit maximization. The larger question is where the government is leaning on or mandating the use of ESG criteria with respect to investment activity and that sort of thing.
