Psychologist Meg speare studies autobiographical memories and positive thoughts. In one study, she made a hundred and 34 students submerge their hands in ice cold water for two minutes. She then asked them to think back on happy times from their own life. People who recalled more memories related to socially close others showed the greatest dampening of the quartesal strass response.
