Despite decades of foreign mining operations, i'm guessing you don't see a lot of electric cars rolling around in congo. And it's very difficult for businesses to set up if they can't be assured of power 24 seven even though this is the country that produces the raw materials which go into batteries. So there are systemic issues that need to be dealt with before congo can become a hyte producer. I meanithin that is a very wasteful way of looking at things, beyond any issuesof corruption and local gain. It's also a way in which people there are kind of left out of this boom.

Today’s show was produced by Will Reid, edited by Matt Collette, engineered by Efim Shapiro, fact-checked by Laura Bullard and hosted by Sean Rameswaram.
