Third Party Punishment in a Chimpanzee Context

The capacity for normativity is to be able to follow what you might call the rules or the patterns of your society. So oftentimes punishment is described as the appropriate response to a norm violator. But more importantly, I think that punishment is overrated as a response to norm violations. Most of the time when I see people violate norms, I don't punish them because I'm not in the right position. And so there've been research in the lab looking to elicit the sort of third party punishment in chimpanzees.
