I think that there's just an experiential disconnect that we have with kind of like the rest of the world. The human mental world is sort of so immersive and in many respects kind of be guiling, it tends to feel like it exists as a truly distinct universe unto itself. I also think that this is ultimately what underlies the pervasiveness of the nature and nurture dichotomy. An emotional and psychological need to claim humanity is more distinct than it is.
