Is the State a Weapon of Aggression?
The state is the apparatus of coercion and compulsion, basically. The pure free market has never existed because property has always been a vulnerable to aggression. I can't get my head around how you could have freemarket price n in the market for violence, because it's a natural monopoly. Even werehe just, there's always this this temptation, i guess, to siphen wealth off the productive economy that's inherent to all governments throughout all history. And so i think the point in graber's book is that, you know, gold did emerge in the free market as money, but the state also influences what the shape of money's evolution.
