The Importance of the Nazarid State of Grenada

Grenada came into being in 1237 when the first Sultan Mohammed founded the city. It was a flourishing place, but it gradually became more and more isolated from the rest of Spain because of pressure put on by Christian monarchs. Eventually, Grenada was the last bastion if you like of Islamic rule in Spain. But there was a great pressure then being exerted upon the Nazareth state from outside either Christian forces who were constantly raiding the frontier or sieging areas of the frontier.
