Tacitus was a big fan of sallust's work. He may well have commented on whether pompey was going to be a good leader or not. Pompey also heavily involved with the war against spartacus, which crassus got all the credit for. So we see kind of written all over it, the influence of thucydides. But modern historians would not put sallust on the same level.
