Are We Sure That Judas Is in Hell?

Some people are very sure that judas is in hell, because jesus said it would have been better for him never to have been born than to betray the son man. Other people, though, are not sure. Pope benedict the sixteenth wrote about how even in the case of judas, we can't be sure. Matthew explicitly says that judas repented, he then went on to kill himself.
