The 16 Kingdoms of China
The name 16 kingdoms is quite a generalization for a period where there were a number of kingdoms, not necessarily always 16, but of various ethenicities. In the south, a new capital city was established by the jin at jen kang,. And it was sufficiently far away from the rebellious lands of the north to be able to establish itself relatively peacefully. The fourth century began to see some cultural advances, the likes of which had not really been known since the years of hand dynasty china. But yet again, this seemingly stabilizing condition was all too short lived when former chin and eastern jin battled each other at the battle of fay river in 83.
