I think that I would write material that made me laugh first and foremost. You still do have to fulfill a brief. So if I'm doing a corporate gig for a company, for example, they don't want to hear me be too introspective or edgy. They need to see where the punchline is. There's this joke about my dad that I started telling maybe in 2012 and I don't really like it anymore,. But I wheel it out for corporates and all it is is that my parents divorced. The comedy here seemed so different and nuanced and clever and all of it was mainstream. And so I really found my voice here.
