The problem is in the text, we do know like the first couple chapters tell us why what's happening is happening because God took a bet. So there we are given a sort of God's eye view of why suffering is happening. But that's not even really God's argument. He's already righteous. There's no sense in which he said to be not quite sufficiently righteous or needing to go through a bunch of suffering for him to be righteous. It's just because this asshole tempts the Lord.
