The Problem With Meritocracy
Even in a society with perfect equality of opportunity, the problem with meritocracy is that it leads the successful to forget the luck and good fortune that help them on their way. So giveen these two contingencies morally arbitrary features of who gets ahead. But having those at i gifts is not his doing's his good luck. And living at a time when we heap huge rewards on great basketball players, that too is not hisdoing. It's his goodluck. If labran had lived back in the days of the renaissance, they didn't care much about basket ball then, they they cared more about fresco painters.
