The Iron Curtain of the Internet Age
A lot of people who fear slowing down the development of AI in the West make the case that if we do that, then it lets China win. But while there are lots of Chinese companies working on exactly the same large language models that we're seeing and with chat GPT, et cetera, here in the West, as far as I'm aware, they have not allowed any of them to kind of be opened up to the public in the same way. And so actually the totalitarian governments on the other side of the kind of iron curtain of the internet age are ironically not using their populations as a testbed as guinea pigs for this new technology.
