The Politics of Local Authorities in England

In some sense, our elections have just been getting more complicated over time. Policy just does get more complicated when all these different areas start interacting with each other. And I think that's where we are now in the sense of having more things in play that will usually be the case in these elections. That's similar to James Callahan later on in that he goes through very, very worst post-war financial crisis. But he is in a good position to win at least in 1978 and may well have won if he'd called the election earlier. So maybe actually financial crises aren't necessarily as damaging as we might now think of it.
