Theory of operant conditioning is that our behavior is shaped by the responses we get to it. Things that are rewarded were more likely to do, things that are punished less likely to repeat. Abraham heard her discussion about cats and wanted to chime in. He wondered if it might also happen for us with anxiety: I'm not really aware maybe of being anxious or maybe I'm vaguely aware of it.
