Ali Torben: When designing a visualization, should we stick with quote unquote best practices? Or should we experiment with a new approach? Should we try to get creative? Both are completely legitimate, of course. But if you don't have a lot of experience or maybe you haven't thought about this too much, it's hard to know how to even think about it. So here are the four scales. How much time or patience does my reader have? Do I need to capture my reader's attention? Have there been struggles in the past to convey this concept? And how much time or resources do I have available? Think through these questions and draw a dot on each scale.
