Stopping Frisk Statistics in New York City
The NYPD conducted 4.4 million Terry stops between January 2004 and June 2012. 52% of all stops were followed by protective frisks for weapons. A weapon was found after 1.5% of these frisk, which I would like to contextualize as low because the standard is reasonable suspicion. If what you believe is reasonable leads to an outcome of finding a weapon 1.5 per cent of the time, is that a fucking reasonable suspicion? Right.
