CHAPTER

Kleptoparasitism in the Ocean

These are considered kleptoparasites and not brood parasites like a kukubee. They're indirectly fed by the parents with food that's been left behind. One species, epitonium clathrachulum feeds by sort of crawling up anAnemone to extract undigested food from its gastric cavity. So they're pretty brutal. And so it's hard to say which groups kleaptoparasitism occurs in most frequently because it's really well documented in groups where it's easy to observe like birds and insects. But we know it's not impossible.
