Joseph smith founded the church of jesus christ of latter day saints in 18 30, just a few days after he published the book of mormon. He moved west to ohio and then missouri and attempted to establish the church's headquarters there. By 18 33, they had violently expelled smith and his followers from the area. So smith moved to illinois and established a new headquarters on the banks of the mississippi river. The church grew rapidly and started sending missionaries to europe. Many of the new european converts came to navo, which soon became larger than chicago. But the growth of the church and its unorthodox teachings and practices once again inspired
