Making America Great Again

I'm curious how you see this these ideas, these intellectual ideas playing out in sort of everyday politics. I think it's complicated because, first of all, take the make America great again, the Trump kind of Trumpism as a phenomenon. It is true that there is a kind of regressive impulse there to try to undo the gains of progressive Democrats and so on. In a weird way, the kind of backward looking conception of progress is really implicated there too. And we should be trying to formulate some kind of progressive political goals without having to tie them up with American exceptionalism or something like that.
