The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA)
VAWA is the Violence Against Women Act, which was passed in 1994. It provided for a civil cause of action for victims of gender-based violence in federal court. Joe Biden famously said: "Come on, man, we need a law" The act provides $1.6 billion to fund victim services and other programs.
