I was still coming to terms with who I was in my teenage years. Thatcher government described gay relationships as pretend family relationships. They were trying to stop me loving the person I loved gratuitously. And yet we had a government telling me that I wasn't allowed to be who I was. It's actually a story of why politics matters.
