Ezra Tap Benson was an apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He opposed socialism and communism, but later became a member of the Eisenhower cabinet. When he tried to cut farm subsidies during the Great Depression, his wife wrote him letters saying that this won't help us because we need money from the government.
