The Amygdala and the Polvenar in the Brain
The amygdala is a very small structure, actually. It's funny how some of these small structures can become very famous and have a very important roles in fact in the brain. The name itself reflects the fact that the amygdala is kind of like the shape of an almond and then the size of a regular almond in a sense, a little bit bigger maybe. So one of the key ideas I want listeners to remember is that the amygdala does more than process fear. Back in episode 91, Jacques Penkship talked about the evidence that fear itself originates lower in the brain than the level of the amygdala.
