The Effects of Exercise on Heart Rate and Baby's Heart Rate
The study looked at blood flow through the umbilical cord. The idea was that if mom is working at a really high intensity, blood is going to be shunted away from baby and placenta because it is needed so much for the muscles and the heart that are pumping in utero. They saw their resting heart rate go from 85 beats per minute up to 163. And then they cooled down or immediately after those intervals, they took fetal tracings, did a five minute cool down and then saw how mom's heart rate and baby's heart rate recovered.
