The Value of Finding Critical Points in a Deep Neural Network

No one has ever found a critical point of a large scale deep neural network. So even though neural networks don't have bad local minima, this critical point finding algorithm does converge to points that are not zeros of their objective. The value is in the confirmation of this Gaussian process picture from Stis tool physics. It's really nice for thinking about optimization behavior.
