The Great Spine of Africa Expedition
The Zambi-Z river is home to over 20 million people and countless species of plants and animals. Much of its winding journey, from marshy origins to the salt waters of the Indian Ocean, remains unknown to science. National Geographic explorer Steve Boyes will lead 200 expeditions by 2030 into Africa's rivers with the great spine of Africa expeditions. The team has focused this decade on opportunities in the upper reaches around the sources.
